I would say it depends. My house was built on the foreground of the property for who knows why, so my bedroom is annoyingly close to street parking. I put my vehicles there so I don’t have to listen to thundering bass at 2am, or the constant slamming and opening of doors at all odd hours.

But to align with your sentiment, first come, first serve.

My next door neighbor is like that. He has:

PT cruiser

HHR

Mid 80's c10 pickup

Early 2000's Audi a8

GMC safari van

Late 90's 3800 manual camaro

A teal ‘95 mustang GT

In the year I have lived here, the mustang has never left the yard. He has started it up a few times and it sounds wonderful. I’d love to get my hands on it.

I work in many new housing developments where basically street parking is at a premium because the developer’s goal is to stuff as many homes on a few acres as physically possible. Even with 2- or sometimes 3-wide driveways, there will be without failure one homebuyer that has either 15 people living with them or just a few more cars than their neighbors. It’s especially bad for these plats that really are one two-wide streets with no real shoulder. And you better believe the person with the four cars and two trailers bought the house at the very entrance of the plat.

I’m not sure if I’d have a problem with it were my neighbor... If things are legally parked and legally owned, there’s not much else I should expect. If they were to park the cars down the street and take someone else’s parking, that would be irksome, but again, probably not illegal.

Our HOA is weird. They are really anal about keeping lawns mowed and fences in shape, but they don’t seem to enforce the vehicle-related rules: no overnight street parking, no boats in driveways, no motorhomes. I don’t really mind in general - we have plenty of space here - but the guy who will sometimes park his Prevost coach in front of his house for a week or two at a time is a bit annoying.

I really should go knock. It’s about 12 houses down the street, so I’ve never met the family that lives there. The guy I’ve seen working on the cars looks a bit intimidating, though... Maybe I’ll just leave a note one of these days.

I don’t really have any issue with it - I just figure with that many cars he might be able to spare one!

I always wonder how you end up with such a scattered collection of vehicles like that.

Mainly I’m sad that the Benz is being neglected. I’ve always loved R129's and the red is such an awesome color. I don’t really have a problem with people who park on the street out of necessity, but what bugs me are the ones who do it when they don’t need to. In this case it is kind of borderline. If it were me, those project cars would be kept in storage so that I didn’t need to park two cars in the street. But I understand there may be circumstances preventing that.

The one who I do have a problem with is the guy two houses up from this one who parks his lifted Excursion in the street overnight taking up half of the road while the driveway sits empty.

Well it could be worse. My neighbor has talked to me several times because he felt my vehicle was “too close” to his property line, in spite of it being legally parked on the street and not over his property line (and actually still on MY property line). We used to be good terms, but I just ceased voluntary contact because all he does is make underhanded comments about my property and my cars.

Ugh that’s the worst. Property lines don’t extend into the street. If they don’t like it they can park their car there sometime when you’re out. First come, first serve. The previous neighborhood I lived in had these spats all the time and it got old. I parked in the driveway and was never part of it, but the neighbors were always complaining about each other’s parking.

I will admit getting a little mad at a neighbor about street parking once - he parked in front of my trash cans on trash day and my trash didn’t get picked up. That was a little irritating, but even that got resolved with a civil “I don’t mind if you park here, but please check if the trash cans are out before you do.”

The max amount any one (regular) person should have is 3 cars.

At one point I had four. Now I have one.

I agree that seven is a silly number to have unless they’re all Lotuses. Loti?

Kinja'd!!!0

Agreed, Loti.

Three vehicles because:

1. Daily Driver

2. Race Car

3. Tow-Vehicle

OR

1. Daily Driver - Convertible

2. Long Distance Driver - Comfortable 4 Door

3. Weekend Car - Sports Car

Three is the optimal amount of vehicles for a personal fleet.

I’ve never actually met these folks, but based on what I’ve seen passing by it looks like there is an older couple living there with 2 or 3 of their adult children. So 7 doesn’t seem too crazy for 4-5 drivers. Then again they could all just belong the older guy and everyone else I see is just over visiting.

three is just a good start. you make no mention of project cars, or parts cars, or parts cars for the parts car. or work vehicles (the heavy lifting kind)

i believe in having the right vehicle for the job.

Three operational vehicles should get you the full breadth of automotive capabilities. I don’t count parts cars or project cars because at the end of the day, you can’t drive them.

I agree, having the right vehicle for the right job is perfect.

For example:

1. Work Truck

2. After 5 PM Vehicle

3. Family Hauler

The options are endless!

Me:

1. Bicycles for daily, off road/single track and cargo hauling

2. Classic bicycles for sunny commuting

3. Classic truck for random errands, mountain bike trips and/or road trips

People at work ask me if I even own a car

BUT bikes aren’t parked on the driveway so I’m fine. ;)

Check your local ordinances about livestock, then:

Get a pen
Make sure it’s right up to the property line
Put a goat in it
Put a chicken coop next to it.

Tell him they’re for milk and eggs and that he can do nothing about it.
